An Australian Man and His Dog Rescued After Months Adrift in the Pacific Ocean
An incredible story of survival has emerged as an Australian man and his dog were rescued after spending three months adrift at sea. Tim Shaddock, a 51-year-old sailor from Sydney, Australia, and his loyal companion Bella set sail from La Paz, Mexico, on a small catamaran boat bound for French Polynesia.
However, just a month into their journey, they encountered a violent storm that disabled their boat, leaving them stranded in the vast South Pacific Ocean. With no means of communication and no way to navigate, their chances of being found seemed slim.
During their harrowing ordeal, Shaddock relied on his resourcefulness and determination to survive. He caught rainwater and ate raw fish to sustain himself and his beloved dog. It was a true test of their resilience and will to live.
Finally, after three long months, a helicopter conducting surveillance for a tuna trawler spotted Shaddock and Bella. They were rescued and brought back to Mexico, where they received the care they desperately needed.

Reflecting on his incredible rescue, Shaddock expressed his gratitude and the challenges he faced. “I have been through a very difficult ordeal at sea,” he told Nine News. “I’m just needing rest and good food because I have been alone at sea a long time. I have not had enough food for a long time. Otherwise, I’m in very good health.”
Experts marveled at Shaddock’s survival, considering the vastness of the Pacific Ocean and the small size of his boat. Professor Mike Tipton, an expert in naval survival, praised Shaddock’s smart thinking and his ability to conserve water by minimizing physical activity and staying out of the sun.
Shaddock’s story has drawn comparisons to the fictional movie “Cast Away,” starring Tom Hanks. Like the character in the film, Shaddock was rescued at sea, emaciated and with long, shaggy hair and beard. However, unlike the movie, Shaddock had his loyal dog Bella by his side throughout the ordeal.
After surviving both his incredible sea journey and a battle with bowel cancer 20 years earlier, Shaddock’s resilience and determination are truly remarkable. He will now undergo medical observation for the next several months as he continues his recovery.
