Democrats, including Rep. Lloyd Doggett (D-TX), have called on Biden to step down as the party’s standard-bearer after his poor performance during the first presidential debate against former President Donald Trump.

Other Democrats have advocated for Biden to make more unscripted public appearances, including interviews, as part of an effort to increase trust in him after he lost his train of thought and made other errors during his 90-minute off-teleprompter debate. The president has also had meetings with congressional Democrats and Democratic governors, as well as held phone calls with his campaign and the Democratic National Committee.
