Press Secretary Jen Psaki said the U.S. would enforce more sanctions on Iran if needed in order to avoid a potential nuclear crisis.

“Given the ongoing advances in Iran’s nuclear program, the president has asked his team to prepare in the event the diplomacy fails,” said Psaki.

Psaki made the announcement on Thursday, adding the only way the U.S. would end sanctions is if they come to a new agreement on a nuclear deal. This comes after State Secretary Antony Blinken said Iran wasn’t showing seriousness in regards to a deal during last week’s nuclear talks in Vienna.

“Based on the outcome of the last round of talks and the ongoing advancements in Iran’s nuclear facilities, we are laying the groundwork for another path entirely,” she stated.

Psaki further added the U.S. has been considering sending a delegation to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) next week to discuss possible economic sanctions.
