Biden Administration’s False Claim on Texas Preventing Border Patrol Rescue Undermined by DOJ

This allegation came shortly after the state of Texas took control of a park in Eagle Pass that was previously used by Border Patrol to process illegal immigrants. The Texas Military Department directly addressed the claim, stating, ”At no time did TMD security personnel along the river observe any distressed migrants, nor did TMD turn back any illegal immigrants from the US during this period.”
While the tragic incident occurred, other migrants who struggled to cross the Rio Grande were rescued by the Mexican government approximately 45 minutes after Border Patrol informed Texas authorities. U.S. Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-TX) used this incident to criticize Texas for defending its borders, claiming that the state “bears responsibility” for the deaths.

Contrary to the Biden administration’s claim, the Texas Military Department immediately deployed resources in response to the distress call from the Border Patrol. Moreover, the Texas authorities were able to recover the bodies of the victims and provided necessary medical assistance.
