White House under fire for Hunter Biden’s text to Chinese contact
The White House Dodges Questions About Hunter Biden’s Controversial Text Message
The White House found itself in hot water as reporters bombarded press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre with questions regarding a text message sent by Hunter Biden to a Chinese business associate. The message, which seemingly exploits the influence of his father, President Joe Biden, raised concerns about the president’s previous claims of not discussing his son’s overseas business dealings.
A Potential Smoking Gun?
“Does this not undermine the president’s claim during the 2020 campaign and the reaffirmations of that claim by his two press secretaries since then, that he never once discussed his son’s overseas business dealings with him?” James Rosen of Newsmax asked.
Despite the pressing nature of the question, National Security Council spokesman John Kirby refused to engage, simply stating, “No, and I’m not going to comment further on this.” This led to a back-and-forth exchange between Kirby and Rosen, with Kirby eventually shutting down any further discussion on the matter.
When Jean-Pierre took the podium, she repeatedly redirected the questions to the White House counsel, who had only released a brief statement prior to the revelation of the text message. The statement from White House spokesman Ian Sams expressed support for Hunter Biden’s journey of rebuilding his life, but provided no further comment.
Hunter Biden’s personal attorney, Chris Clark, also released a statement, distancing the actions of his client from the rest of his family. “Any verifiable words or actions of my client, in the midst of a horrible addiction, are solely his own and have no connection to anyone in his family,” Clark stated.
The Controversial Text Message
The focus of the controversy lies in a July 30, 2017, WhatsApp message from Hunter Biden to Henry Zhao, the group chairman of China’s Harvest Fund Management. In the message, Hunter references his father and demands a payment while seemingly threatening the Chinese businessman.
The implications of the text message suggest that Joe Biden may have been aware of and potentially involved in his son’s foreign business dealings. Photographs from Hunter Biden’s laptop, previously reviewed by the Washington Examiner, indicate that Hunter was at his father’s residence on the day the text message was sent, although it remains unclear if Joe Biden was present at the time.
Despite the mounting questions and intensified scrutiny, Jean-Pierre remained tight-lipped, repeatedly referring back to the White House counsel’s previous response. Reporters continued to press for more information, but Jean-Pierre refused to provide any further details.
As the controversy surrounding Hunter Biden’s text message unfolds, the White House finds itself under increasing pressure to address the allegations and clarify the extent of President Biden’s involvement.
