White House hopes to keep potential Trump indictment at arm’s-length

The White House aims to avoid any talk of a potential indictment of former President Donald Trump, hoping to let the legal process play out without any influence from the administration.

President Biden and his top aides have refrained from discussing the investigation led by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg into Trump’s alleged falsifying of business records relating to a hush money payment made to porn star, Stormy Daniels during the 2016 presidential campaign.

Meanwhile, Trump has claimed that Bragg is “taking his orders from D.C.” and has even predicted his own arrest, though reports indicate that an indictment could be issued within the next week.

Biden and his team wish to remain impartial from the Justice Department, and their silence on the matter enables Republicans to take a side on the issue. Some Democrats, however, do express concerns over how potential indictments from the Manhattan DA’s office could complicate the numerous other legal issues surrounding Trump, especially the investigations led by special counsel Jack Smith.

On Tuesday, Smith’s team reportedly gathered evidence that Trump deliberately misled his own legal team regarding his mishandling of classified materials after taking office. Trump dismissed the ABC News report on this issue, which was leaked illegally, according to him.

Despite Trump’s legal troubles, the White House opened Wednesday morning by criticizing former Vice President Mike Pence, a potential Republican presidential candidate, accusing him of selling out the middle class and undermining American freedoms, particularly the right of women to make their own healthcare decisions.

In conclusion, the White House believes that staying away from discussions on Trump’s potential indictment will help the legal process play out without influencing it.
