White House suggests Biden won’t mark Afghanistan exit.
Anniversary of Afghanistan Withdrawal
It’s been two years since the final days of the Afghanistan withdrawal, a moment that had a significant impact on President Joe Biden’s approval ratings. However, it seems that the Biden administration has chosen not to commemorate this anniversary with any in-person events.
Remembering the Fallen
During Wednesday’s White House press briefing, press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre was asked if President Biden had any plans to honor the events and the lives lost during the withdrawal. In response, Jean-Pierre referred to a written statement released by the president last Saturday.
“The president put out a statement recently when it came to the anniversary of Abbey Gate, so I just want to state this as it was stated in the president’s statement,” she said. “We’ll forever honor the memory of the 13 service members who were stolen far too soon from their families, loved ones, and brothers and sisters in arms.”
Biden firmly believes that leaving Afghanistan was the right decision and that the war should have ended long ago. Moving forward, his focus is on protecting our homeland and ensuring the safety of Americans.
While there won’t be any official events to mark the occasion, it’s worth noting that 13 Gold Star families, who tragically lost loved ones, appeared before the House Foreign Affairs committee this week. Many of them expressed strong criticism of Biden’s handling of the situation.
