White House stays silent on Trump indictments to respect DOJ independence.
White House Holds Back on Commenting on Trump’s Latest Indictment
The White House is refraining from commenting on former President Donald Trump’s fourth indictment, as it has done with previous charges against him, according to White House Principle Deputy Press Secretary Olivia Dalton.
President Joe Biden campaigned on a promise to “restore democracy,” and Dalton reiterated that platform as the reason why the White House has not addressed the indictments coming from Trump’s own Department of Justice (DOJ).
“You’ve heard the president speak on a number of occasions about the soul of our nation, making sure that we’re protecting the foundations of our democracy. But you’ve also heard this president, even before he was in office, talk about the importance of restoring the independence of the DOJ,” Dalton said.

“And so, you know, we have to hold both of those things and with respect to the cases that are underway with respect to ongoing criminal cases, that’s certainly why we’ve continued to observe the independence of the DOJ to respect that and make sure that we don’t overstep here.”
President Trump is currently facing trial in New York, Florida, Washington, and Georgia for various charges, including falsifying business records, mishandling classified documents, conspiracy to defraud citizens in the 2020 presidential elections, and alleged interference in Georgia’s 2020 general election.
Trump and his supporters have raised questions about the timing of the charges related to the 2020 elections, alleging election interference from his political rival President Biden.
Despite the legal challenges, Trump’s polling numbers have improved, and the recent indictments have also boosted his fundraising efforts.
All four cases have sparked strong partisan reactions, with Trump’s supporters calling them election interference and a “witch hunt,” while his detractors view the charges as lawful and a victory for democracy.
“After losing the free and fair 2020 election, the failed former president attempted to disenfranchise Georgia voters because he didn’t like the result. That was an assault on our democracy. But in Fulton County we apply the law equally to everyone–even failed former presidents,” posted Rep. Nikema Williams (D-Ga.), whose district includes most of Atlanta.
“President Biden and the Democrats are ABUSING the justice system and have weaponized it against Donald Trump,” posted Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas). “They are trying to take the power away from the voters.”
Biden Avoids Trump
While President Biden has been vocal about criticizing his rival’s policies under his economic platform called “Bidenomics,” he has remained silent on the legal issues surrounding Trump and has recently avoided interactions with reporters.
After Trump’s third indictment, Biden’s campaign spokesman, Kevin Munoz, stated that “like every Republican running for president, Donald Trump is running on an extreme, unpopular agenda.”
“As we saw in the midterms and continue to see in down-ballot races in 2023, Americans reject the agenda Donald Trump embodies. President Biden will continue to campaign for our freedoms, for our middle class, and for our democracy − these are the issues Americans outside the beltway continue to head to the ballot box on.”
Last month, Mr. Munoz criticized the former president…
