White⁤ House Press Secretary Denies Possibility ​of Biden Pardoning Son

During a press briefing on Thursday, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre firmly shut down any speculation about President Joe Biden considering a pardon for his son. When asked if there ⁢was a chance of a pardon, Jean-Pierre simply replied, “No.”

Presidential Pardon Power and the Justice Department

The⁢ power of presidential pardons is relatively unrestricted, but ⁢the White House has consistently emphasized‌ that it does not interfere with the work of the Justice Department ​in this matter.

Hunter Biden’s plea ⁤deal, which would have allowed him to avoid prison time ​for tax and gun charges, fell ⁤apart in court on Wednesday, leaving the president’s son in a state of uncertainty. He had initially planned to​ plead guilty under the original agreement but ultimately pleaded not guilty⁤ to the charges.

Impeachment Inquiry ⁣and Denials

House Republicans have been considering an‌ impeachment inquiry to⁤ investigate‍ President Biden’s alleged involvement in Hunter Biden’s business activities. The White⁢ House has denied any business partnership between the Bidens, although it was previously stated that they never discussed business matters.

President Biden’s team has been‍ cautious about commenting on matters involving Hunter Biden. Jean-Pierre reiterated this⁣ during the briefing, stating, “Hunter Biden is a private citizen, and this was a personal matter for him. As we have said, the⁢ president and⁢ the first lady love their son and support him as he continues to rebuild his‌ life.”

She⁤ further emphasized that the case was handled⁤ independently⁣ by the Justice Department, under the leadership of⁣ a prosecutor appointed by⁤ former President Trump. For any further inquiries, Jean-Pierre directed ⁢reporters to the Department ⁤of Justice‌ and Hunter’s representatives.
