White House Suggests ‘Assault Weapons Ban’ After Mass Shooting at Nashville School
In response to the deadly mass shooting that occurred at a Christian school in Nashville on Monday, the White House declared that certain automatic weapon types needed to be outlawed by House lawmakers.
White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre stated to reporters on Monday that President Joe Biden” wants Congress to act because enough is enough.” How many more kids must be killed before Republicans in Congress take action to enact the ban on assault arms?
The leader was informed of the incident, Jean-Pierre continued, adding that schools do be” safe spaces for our children to grow and learn as well as our teachers to teach.” Although more information about the incident is still unknown, regulators in Nashville reported that a 28-year-old adult gunman shot and killed three kids and three adults.
According to her, the senator has been informed of the situation, and our team is in contact with the Department of Justice and national authorities. ” We want to thank the first responders for their assistance and pray for all the families affected by this shooting ,” the president said.
While we are still in the dark about the specifics of this most recent horrible hunting, Jean-Pierre added to investigators,” We are aware that gun violence frequently destroys our schools and communities.”
She added that Biden will speak about the energy shooting at a gathering on Monday afternoon. She also praised Biden’s recent senior commands on gun control and a piece of legislation he signed last year in response to another Texas school shooting during the presentation.
The president” taken more action than any president in history on gun safety from nearly two dozen actions, including the executive order he just signed last month… to the bipartisan Safer Communities Act legislation … after the tragedies in Uvalde and Buffalo ,” Jean-Pierre continued.
In particular, Biden will demand a ban on” assault weapons” and” high-capacity magazines” while removing immunity for gun manufacturers, she said.
According to Nashville police, the woman was carrying a gun and what they called” assault-type rifles.” They omitted any additional information about the suspect or the arms.
Some House Democratic politicians claimed that the Safer Communities Act was an attempt to revoke Americans’ Second Amendment rights when it was first proposed last summer.
Rep. Dan Bishop( R – N. C. ) stated last year that” America is looking for people who will come out and explain to the people, remind them what the Second Amendment’s foundation is, why it exists, and why we’re substantially free because of it.” ” I think that results in election successes much more than trying to get the last ballot.”
Sen. Ted Cruz( R-Texas ) made the observation that shootings and other similar incidents” are a mirror forcing us to ask hard questions, demanding that we see where our culture is failing” around the same time. He also noted that despite more mass shooters, the rate of gun ownership hasn’t changed significantly in recent years. He said next summer, echoing a common refrain of Republicans and liberals about gun manage,” We may not respond to evil and horror by abandoning the Constitution or infringing on the right of our law-abiding members.”
However, a poll taken in November revealed that since last summer, Americans’ guidance for stricter gun control legislation has decreased. According to that Gallup poll, 57 percent of Americans now think that laws governing the sale of weapon should be stricter, home from 66 percent in June 2022.
