Whoopi Goldberg questions Harry and Meghan’s car chase tale.
Whoopi Goldberg Casts Doubt on Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Paparazzi Story
During Thursday’s episode of “The View,” Whoopi Goldberg expressed skepticism about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s recent story about a “near catastrophic car chase” involving “aggressive” paparazzi in New York City.
Goldberg introduced the story by saying that “Prince Harry and Meghan Markle [and her mom Doria Ragland] were followed by paparazzi while leaving the Ziegfeld Theatre. Their spokesperson called it a ‘near-catastrophic car chase.’”
It was at that last line that Goldberg made a skeptical expression, causing laughter from the audience.
“Others said it wasn’t bad,” she added. “But I think people in New York know if it was possible to have car chases in New York, we’d all make it to the theater on time.”
Defending the Duke and Duchess
Co-host Joy Behar appeared to agree with Goldberg, but Sunny Hostin came to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s defense and said that “no one ever claimed that there was a high-speed chase, and I think when we think about chases, we think about high-speed chases.”
A spokesperson for the royals originally said, “Last night, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and Ms. Ragland were involved in a near catastrophic car chase at the hands of a ring of highly aggressive paparazzi.”
“This relentless pursuit, lasting over two hours, resulted in multiple near collisions involving other drivers on the road, pedestrians and two NYPD officers,” the statement added. “While being a public figure comes with a level of interest from the public, it should never come at the cost of anyone’s safety.”
“On Tuesday evening, May 16, the NYPD assisted the private security team protecting the Duke and Duchess of Sussex,” a statement to The Daily Wire from NYPD Deputy Commissioner Public Information Officer Julian Phillips read.
“There were numerous photographers that made their transport challenging,” the statement added. “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex arrived at their destination and there were no reported collisions, summonses, injuries, or arrests in regard.”
What Really Happened?
It’s unclear what really happened that night, but it’s clear that the story has caused controversy and divided opinions. While some believe that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were genuinely in danger, others think that the story was exaggerated or even fabricated for publicity purposes.
- Did the paparazzi really pose a threat? Some have argued that the paparazzi were simply doing their job and that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were not in any real danger.
- Was the story exaggerated? Others have suggested that the story was exaggerated for publicity purposes and that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were simply trying to generate headlines.
- What does this mean for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex? Whatever the truth may be, this incident has once again highlighted the challenges that come with being a public figure and the need for privacy and security.
Only time will tell what really happened that night, but one thing is for sure: the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will continue to be in the public eye, and their every move will be scrutinized and analyzed by the media and the public alike.
