Hurd dubs Trump-Biden 2024 as ‘hellish rematch.’

Former Rep. Will Hurd: A Potential Biden-Trump Rematch Would Be a “Rematch from Hell”

Former Rep. Will Hurd (R-TX) recently appeared on NBC’s “Meet the Press” and shared his thoughts on a potential rematch between President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump. According to Hurd, such a rematch would be a “rematch from hell.”

A Republican Ready to Move On from Trump

Hurd, a moderate Republican, didn’t hold back in his criticism of Trump. He even cast doubt on the certainty that Trump would be the 2024 Republican nominee, despite his lead in the polls. “Even people that like Donald Trump and were proud to vote for him think that Donald Trump has a lot of baggage that’s going to hurt Republicans’ chances in 2024,” Hurd said.

Hurd believes that Republicans are ready to move on from Trump and focus on the issues that matter. “A lot of those voters believe that Donald Trump’s mouth gets in the way and prevents us from talking about issues that matter,” he said. “The GOP lost the House in 2018. We lost the Senate and the White House in 2020. The red wave that should have happened in 2022 didn’t happen. And all that is because of Donald Trump.”

A Possible Moderate Republican Alternative for President

Hurd is widely seen as a possible moderate Republican alternative for president, a possibility he has hinted at several times. During his appearance on “Meet the Press,” he said that he would make his decision on whether to run “very soon,” sometime before Memorial Day.

Why Republicans Are Ready to Move On from Trump

According to Hurd, Republicans are ready to move on from Trump because they care about America’s role in the rest of the world. “When you talk to individual voters, they care about our role in the rest of the world. And so… don’t be discouraged. The reality is two-thirds of Americans want somebody other than Donald Trump and Joe Biden. That’s like the rematch from Hell and nobody wants… sorry moms. I don’t mean… to say that,” Hurd said amid laughter. “But nobody wants that. Nobody wants that as… a choice.”

Hurd also believes that Trump’s focus on the past is hurting his chances of winning in 2024. “He’s not looking to the future. He’s not looking about (sic) how do we tackle things like inflation? What would he put forward to solve the border crisis? How are we going to make sure that America stays the most important country in the world? And if we’re constantly looking backwards, that’s a losing strategy, but the election is many months away.”

Conclusion

Former Rep. Will Hurd’s comments on a potential Biden-Trump rematch have sparked a lot of discussion. As a moderate Republican, Hurd believes that Republicans are ready to move on from Trump and focus on the issues that matter. Whether or not Hurd decides to run for president himself remains to be seen, but his insights into the current state of the Republican party are sure to be valuable in the coming months.
