Willie Brown threatens to sue Trump for repeating helicopter accident story

Former President Donald Trump is repeating his claim that he and former San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown almost went down in a helicopter, and he could face serious consequences for his actions.

Brown, a political titan in California and former boyfriend of Vice President Kamala Harris, is threatening to sue Trump for continuing to repeat the story that Brown spilled secrets about Harris to him as they nearly headed for their deaths.

“If he keeps it up, at some point, I’m going to give him a taste of his own conduct,” Brown told CBS. “If he sues the New York Times for printing that I said he lied, I’m going to sue him.”

Trump defended the claims in a Truth Social post earlier this month, saying, “But now Willie doesn’t remember? No, he remembers!”, and threatening to sue the newspaper over its coverage of the matter.

During a press conference at his Mar-a-Lago resort earlier this month, Trump first said that Brown told him “terrible things” about Harris during a helicopter ride that ended in an emergency landing. Harris and Brown dated in the 1990s.

As Brown has denied the story, some have speculated the incident Trump was referring to may have been when he and former California Gov. Jerry Brown went on a helicopter ride in 2018. But the governor has said there was no emergency landing with that flight, or when Trump went on a helicopter ride with former California state Sen. Nate Holden, which he claims did nearly crash.

Trump has denied these claims in a Truth Social post, insisting again that it was with Willie Brown.

“Two Failing New York Times reporters’ questioned my story about a forced landing of a helicopter, in a field, with former Mayor of San Francisco, Willie Brown, and others. First of all, it was in New Jersey, not California, and it was Willie Brown, not former Governor Jerry Brown,” Trump said.

Trump has not elaborated on a lawsuit against the news outlet since his initial threat 10 days ago.
