GOP lawmaker threatens to halt House action unless more spending cuts are made.

Rep. Victoria Spartz Threatens to Stall Legislative Action in House

Rep. Victoria‌ Spartz (R-IN) is⁤ taking‍ a⁢ stand against excessive spending in ⁤Congress, and she’s not afraid to make her voice heard. In a letter⁣ addressed to Speaker Kevin ⁢McCarthy (R-CA), Spartz vows ⁤to ⁢oppose all GOP-led rules‍ votes until McCarthy addresses unauthorized and automatic‌ spending by the ‍federal⁣ government.

Spartz’s demands come at a‍ crucial time⁤ as ‍the House prepares to vote‌ on appropriations bills. If more Republicans join her ‍in pushing for spending ‍cuts, it could⁤ cause delays ⁤in passing the legislation before ⁢the‌ September deadline.

A Call⁤ for Fiscal Responsibility

In her letter,⁣ Spartz expresses ‍her dissatisfaction with the lack of⁢ leadership‌ in dealing⁤ with the fiscal state⁤ of⁢ the nation. She⁤ emphasizes that Congress has ⁤abandoned its duty to oversee spending, which ‍is crucial for the American ‌people.

Spartz points out ‍three ‍areas where ‍McCarthy must make⁤ changes, accusing him of breaking promises made before becoming House leader.⁣ One of these ‌promises ⁣was ‍to crack down‌ on unauthorized‌ spending, which accounts for ‌a significant ⁣portion of government spending⁤ and lacks proper‌ oversight.

Republicans‌ had proposed eliminating⁢ waivers for unauthorized‍ spending, but McCarthy rejected the idea,‍ suggesting it be handled at the committee level. However, no progress has been made on this front, according ⁢to Spartz.

Despite the criticism ‌from Democratic ‌leaders, who accuse Republicans ⁢of⁤ advancing their own “extreme agenda,” Spartz remains firm in her stance. She‌ joins other⁤ conservatives in demanding increased spending cuts as part of appropriations ‍negotiations.

Confidence in‌ Passing ⁣Appropriations Bills

While Spartz and other conservatives‍ push for spending‍ cuts, Speaker McCarthy remains confident⁤ that the House can pass all 12 appropriations bills ⁣before the⁢ September 30 deadline. The House‌ Appropriations Committee has already‍ approved‍ eight of the 12 spending bills, ‍setting the stage for a ⁤vote by the‌ full chamber.

McCarthy dismisses ‍concerns about potential delays ‍caused by ⁤conservatives, stating that‌ the most important thing is not the ‌Freedom Caucus but⁣ the well-being of America.

It remains to‍ be seen how this intraparty showdown will unfold, ⁢but one ‌thing is clear: Rep. Victoria ‍Spartz is⁣ determined to bring ⁣fiscal responsibility⁢ back ⁤to Congress.
