Wisconsin becomes latest state to recruit fired federal workers – Washington Examiner
Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers recently announced a new initiative aimed at recruiting federal workers who were laid off during the Trump administration’s efforts to downsize the federal workforce. A new portal has been opened for these workers to explore job opportunities available in wisconsin, where nearly 29,000 federal employees were reported last year. Evers criticized the mass firings, stating that they caused importent disruption for many public servants and the communities they support. As part of the initiative, the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Advancement will host a series of virtual job fairs to connect the affected workers with potential employers. Other states, like New York and Maryland, have also started similar efforts to assist those who lost their jobs due to the administration’s policies.
Wisconsin becomes latest state to recruit fired federal workers
Gov. Tony Evers (D-WI) announced on Thursday an initiative to recruit federal workers laid off by the Trump administration in its efforts to downsize the federal workforce.
The governor’s office opened a portal for newly fired federal workers to highlight jobs available in the state. Wisconsin had 28,915 federal workers as of last year, according to the Economic Policy Institute.
“The Trump Administration’s mass firings across the federal government in flagrant violation of the law have created undo (sic) chaos and confusion for tens of thousands of federal employees—employees who only wanted to do their best for the families and communities they were tasked to serve,” Evers said in a statement. “These actions are not only harmful to our workforce, but they are harmful to the folks who have lost critical and trusted support systems in accessing the programs and resources they rely on each day.”
Wisconsin’s Department of Workforce Development is also set to host a series of eight virtual job fairs geared toward connecting fired federal workers and employers.
The Trump administration, through efforts led by the Department of Government Efficiency, has laid off tens of thousands of people across federal agencies. Earlier this year, Wisconsin joined a multi-state lawsuit alleging that the mass firings were unlawful.
“President [Donald] Trump and his Administration have made no secret of their contempt for the roughly 2 million committed professionals who form the federal civil service,” the lawsuit, led by Maryland Attorney General Anthony Brown, claims. “These large-scale, indiscriminate firings are not only subjecting the Plaintiff States and communities across the country to chaos. They are also against the law.”

Other states, including Hawaii, Maryland, New York, and Virginia, have also launched efforts to recruit federal workers. Gov. Kathy Hochul (D-NY) launched a “You’re Hired” initiative to hire workers fired by the Trump administration.
“The federal government might say, ‘You’re fired,’ but here in New York, we say, ‘You’re hired.’ In fact, we love federal workers,” Hochul said. “Whatever your skills, we value public service.”
