Woman escapes jail after stabbing blind date in revenge for U.S. killing Iranian general.
A Woman Avoids Jail Time After Stabbing Blind Date in Revenge for Soleimani’s Death
A 23-year-old woman managed to escape jail time on Wednesday after stabbing her blind date in a Las Vegas-area hotel room. The motive? “Revenge” for the U.S. drone strike that killed Iranian Gen. Qasem Soleimani.
According to police reports, Nika Nikoubin blindfolded her date, Daniel Trevino, whom she met on the dating app Plenty of Fish, and stabbed him in the neck with a kitchen knife during their intimate encounter. Trevino survived the attack and shared his forgiveness in court, leaving the decision of punishment up to the law.
In bodycam footage obtained by 8 News Now, Nikoubin admitted to officers that she stabbed Trevino out of “spite and revenge” for the drone strike ordered by President Donald Trump. She believed that American blood should be spilled in response to the killing of Soleimani.
Nikoubin’s lawyer argued that she had a psychotic episode during the stabbing, and the judge took her mental health issues into consideration when sentencing her to probation. Nikoubin revealed that she had been raped at 18 and had not fully processed the impact it had on her mental health. She also claimed to have spent time in a mental health facility before meeting Trevino.
Probation and University Troubles
Instead of jail time, Judge Carli Kierny ordered Nikoubin to serve three years of probation. During this time, she attended classes at a university in Texas, her home state. However, the university’s police department was unaware of her house arrest status and allowed her to attend classes. The judge criticized the agency in Dallas for not properly monitoring Nikoubin’s compliance with her curfew and other provisions. Eventually, Nikoubin was banned from the university’s campus.
Despite the shocking nature of the crime, Nikoubin’s lawyer maintained that she had no connection to any terrorist organization and had not violated the terms of her house arrest.
