Parolee in Custody for Fatal Shooting in Pasadena
PASADENA, Calif.—A parolee suspected of fatally shooting a woman in Pasadena in what police said was an apparent incident of domestic violence is now in custody.
According to Lt. Monica Ms. Cuellar, the department’s press information officer, the Pasadena Police Department received a shots fired call on Aug. 21 at 10:02 a.m. Officers promptly responded to the 200 block of South Raymond Avenue, near Del Mar Boulevard.
Upon arrival, officers discovered Jamila Elysse Moss, a 34-year-old resident of Pasadena, lying unresponsive outside an apartment complex. Tragically, Ms. Moss was pronounced dead at the scene.

The officers swiftly identified the apartment unit connected to the victim and established a containment around the complex. It was determined that the suspect had barricaded himself inside the apartment unit.
Both the Pasadena and Glendale police departments dispatched SWAT teams and crisis negotiators to the scene. After several hours, Guary Lonnie Shuford III, a 32-year-old from Los Angeles, surrendered to SWAT officers without incident.
It is important to note that Mr. Shuford is currently on parole for robbery.
As a precautionary measure, Metro A Blue Line rail service was temporarily interrupted between the Fillmore and Memorial Park stations, and buses were rerouted away from the area.

According to Ms. Cuellar, this incident marks the second homicide of the year in Pasadena. In 2022, there were a total of seven homicides in the city.
