Women’s golf league excludes men from competition after transgender player’s victory
A Women’s Pro Golf League Implements New Rules After Controversial Win
A women’s professional golf league is shaking things up after a transgender individual claimed victory in a Florida tournament and moved closer to qualifying for the LPGA tour. Hailey Davidson, who previously played on a men’s team in college before transitioning, will no longer be allowed to compete in NXXT Golf due to revised league policies, as reported by The Daily Caller.
“Effective immediately, competitors must be a biological female at birth to participate,” stated NXXT in a recent announcement. “This decision underscores the organization’s commitment to maintaining the integrity of women’s professional golf and ensuring fair competition.”
Stuart McKinnon, CEO of NXXT Golf, emphasized the league’s dedication to protecting women’s sports. “Our revised policy reflects our unwavering commitment to celebrating and safeguarding the achievements and opportunities of female athletes,” McKinnon said. “Protected categories are fundamental in all levels of sports, and it is crucial for our Tour to uphold these categories for biological females, ensuring a level playing field.”
Currently, Davidson holds the second-place position in the league’s standings, which includes 92 players. The transgender golfer’s victory in the NXXT Women’s Classic earlier this year propelled them to the top of the rankings and increased their season winnings to $4,206.84.
Davidson expressed their disappointment with the league’s decision in an Instagram story, stating, “Effective immediately, I have been removed (banned) from the next 3 NXXT tournaments that I had already signed up for and been approved to play. They changed their policy mid-season, after me signing up already and being 2nd in the Player of the Year race.”
The golfer also addressed criticism from female competitors, asserting, “If you’re upset at me playing with my distance (245 yards), then you’ll never make it to the LPGA tour where they are much better and longer than me.”
In an interview with “Good Morning Britain,” Davidson acknowledged the advantages that men have over women in sports but argued that their gender surgery eliminated that physical advantage. “My whole philosophy behind all of this is I don’t believe trans people should be banned from sports, but I do believe there needs to be guidelines in effect,” Davidson explained. “So again, honestly, I 100% agree that men do have advantages. Say you get a trans person on hormones for a year or no surgery nothing… of course, for the most part, yeah, they’re gonna have an advantage.”
Following the controversy surrounding Davidson’s tournament win, NXXT Golf plans to survey its players regarding transgender policies.

What is the reasoning behind McKinnon’s statement about ensuring a fair and level playing field for all participants in women’s golf?
View with Golf Digest, McKinnon responded to the criticism, stating, “This decision is not about discrimination, but rather about ensuring a fair and level playing field for all participants. Our priority is to protect the integrity of women’s golf and to ensure that all players have an equal opportunity to succeed.”
The controversy surrounding Davidson’s participation in NXXT Golf has sparked a wider discussion about transgender individuals competing in women’s sports. This issue has been a contentious topic in recent years, with some arguing that transgender women, who were assigned male at birth, have physical advantages that give them an unfair edge over cisgender women.
Supporters of transgender inclusion argue that everyone should have the right to compete in sports based on their gender identity and that excluding transgender women is discriminatory. However, opponents maintain that biological differences, such as muscle mass and bone density, can give transgender women an advantage in certain sports, potentially compromising the fairness of competition.
This debate has led to various athletic organizations implementing different policies regarding transgender participation. Some organizations, like the International Olympic Committee, have established guidelines that allow transgender women to compete in women’s sports if they meet certain hormone levels and time requirements. Others have taken a more restrictive approach, like the NCAA, which requires transgender women to undergo hormone therapy for a year before participating in women’s competitions.
In the case of NXXT Golf, the league has chosen to adopt a policy that requires athletes to be biological females at birth. By doing so, they aim to ensure fair competition within the women’s golf circuit, prioritizing the integrity of the sport.
However, this decision has also drawn criticism from transgender rights advocates, who argue that it perpetuates discrimination against transgender individuals. They claim that policies like this invalidate the gender identity of transgender women and deny them opportunities to compete in sports that align with their identities.
The debate surrounding transgender inclusion in women’s sports highlights the complexities of balancing fairness and inclusivity. It forces sports organizations to navigate the delicate balance between accommodating diverse identities and maintaining the integrity of their competitions.
As the conversation continues, it is important for all stakeholders to engage in constructive dialogue and work towards finding solutions that consider the concerns and rights of all individuals involved. Ultimately, the goal should be to create a sporting environment that is inclusive, fair, and respects the identities and abilities of all athletes.
