Riley Gaines criticizes Adidas swimsuit modeled by a man for not being suitable for women.
Swimming Champion Riley Gaines Slams Adidas for Using Male Models to Promote Women’s Swimsuit
Former college swimmer Riley Gaines, who was deprived of an NCAA award by trans-identifying swimmer Lia Thomas, took to Twitter to criticize Adidas for using male models to promote their new “Pride Swimsuit” for women. The tweet included images of men wearing women’s one-piece swimsuits, which Gaines called out as “erasing women.”
“Wokeness is only backed by money, it’s not organic”
Gaines’ post received hundreds of comments, with many agreeing that the move by the sports brand was just the latest example of women “being erased.” Republican Representative Nancy Mace also chimed in, tweeting, “I’m old enough to remember when women actually modeled women’s bathing suits, not men.” Another Twitter user commented, “Wokeness is only backed by money, it’s not organic.”
Adidas x Rich Mnisi Pride Collection
Adidas’ website describes the Adidas x Rich Mnisi Pride collection of swimsuits as “a celebration of self-expression, imagination and the unwavering belief that love unites.” The statement added that the partnership with South African designer Rich Mnisi is “one part of our effort to honor the LGBTQIA+ community alongside our Global Purpose partner Athlete Ally.”
Other Companies Promoting Woke Ideology
Adidas is not the only big name company promoting woke ideology regardless of their customer base and bottom line. Anheuser-Busch, Maybelline, Target, and Nike are among the other companies that have made similar moves.
A previous version of this story said male models advertised a women’s swimwear line; it was a single swimsuit.
