World Series Champion Dexter Fowler Retires After 14 MLB Seasons

MLB veteran Dexter Fowler announced Tuesday morning his retirement from baseball. This marks the end of a 14-year career, which included many memorable moments. World Series ring One All-Star selection. 

Fowler shared the news on social media, thanks to his fans and the teams for which he played during his career.

“It’s here. I’m hanging up my cleats,” Fowler wrote. “From an 18-year-old draft pick in Colorado to a ‘vet’ in Anaheim – there are a few things I will never forget … Getting THAT call to the big leagues in September 2008. Wow. My world was spinning. My first ‘you’ve been traded to Houston’ heart pounding call.

“The feeling of bliss while hearing the words ‘All-Star.’ Never knew what it felt like to be that guy! Forever grateful. I was sopping wet and freezing on that field, with tears in my eyes, after the World Series win in Chicago. It’s the comfort of being a Red Bird and calling St. Louis home. Today is one such moment where you literally step down from the throne and are greeted with a standing ovation and tip of the cap. The world stops spinning. I am most proud of my career because I know I played the game right and tried my best to make an impact beyond the win.

In his MLB career, the center fielder was a part of five different teams. His last season was in Anaheim with The Anaheim Giants. Los Angeles Angels

Fowler was injured in the final Major League game, April 9, 2021.

“Denver, Houston, Chicago, St. Louis and Anaheim … My family, friends, teammates, and staff,” Fowler’s statement continued. “Thank you for 14 years. I gave you my all.”

Fowler’s most well-known accomplishment is his 2016 World Series Performance With the Cubs, he became the first player to hit a leadoff double in Game 7 of the Fall Classic. 

The Cubs won the first World Series for the Cubs since 1908, ending an 108-year drought.

Fowler arrived shortly thereafter Signed with CardinalsHe spent four years in St. Louis, before he joined the Angels.

“They were super transparent with me [about] their budget,” According to MLB.com Fowler made these comments about the Cubs “I had a great talk with Theo [Epstein]. The Ricketts were great. The organization was first class. They called me and told me how thankful they were to have me, but basically I’d outpriced myself, which is not a bad thing.

“It’s part of a chapter in your book. Then you turn the page to begin something new. I had the opportunity to be a Redbird, and then play for the Cardinals for four more years. Then, it was the Angels. It was sad leaving, but you turn the page and move on – exactly like I’m doing with my career.”

Fowler finished his career as a .259 hitter with an on-base percentage of .358. His 82 career triples are the most by any player since his debut with the Rockies in 2008.
