Leftist DA goes too far, Soros-backed AG intervenes.
Leftist District Attorney Takes Things So Far, Even a Soros-Backed AG Had to Step In
It should come as no surprise to anyone who pays attention to local politics that deep-blue Minnesota is filled with left-leaning and George Soros-backed officials.
The left and Soros naturally gravitate towards Democratic strongholds, and Minnesota is just as staunchly Democratic as California or New York.
But what may surprise some is that certain left-leaning officials in Minnesota are surpassing even the Soros-backed officials in terms of leniency.
One such official is Hennepin County District Attorney Mary Moriarty, whose lenient rulings have sparked outrage among her constituents and even caught the attention of Soros-backed state attorney general Keith Ellison, according to a scathing report from the Star Tribune.
“I couldn’t breathe,” said Sherrice Barnett, describing her reaction to Moriarty’s explanation of why the teenager charged with her son’s murder would avoid jail time. “I said, ‘I just got to get up out of here.’ I never would have imagined in a million years that it would have gone that way.”
Victims’ families feel retraumatized by what they see as a pattern in Moriarty’s administration, where prosecutors opt for probation instead of seeking prison, as reported by the Tribune.
Catherine Markey, a veteran attorney who lost her son to violence, noted that these lenient choices are not isolated incidents.
“It’s a trend definitely because of Mary Moriarty. She’s still playing public defender — the only thing is, that’s not her role anymore,” Markey said.
Moriarty argues that prison time doesn’t always lead to improvement.
Minnesota’s far-left and Soros-backed attorney general, Keith Ellison, has clashed with Moriarty over her interpretation of the law in previous cases as well.
Despite their ideological alignment, Ellison criticized Moriarty’s probationary deal in a murder case, stating that it was disproportionate to the seriousness of the crime and fell short of the family’s and community’s expectations for justice and safety.
As chaos continues to plague the Democratic party, even on a local level, it is clear that Minnesota is experiencing unprecedented turmoil.

Why do critics argue that Moriarty’s leniency reflects a dangerous ideology that prioritizes the rights of criminals over the rights of victims and the safety of the community
Approach, stating that it undermines public safety and fails to provide justice for victims. In one high-profile case, Moriarty’s leniency resulted in the release of a dangerous sex offender who went on to commit another heinous crime.
The concerns surrounding Moriarty’s lenient rulings extend beyond just victims’ families and the state attorney general. Law enforcement officials and prosecutors are also troubled by her approach. They argue that her decisions undermine their efforts to hold criminals accountable and deter future criminal activities.
Critics argue that Moriarty’s leniency is not only misguided but also reflects a dangerous ideology that prioritizes the rights of criminals over the rights of victims and the safety of the community. They contend that her policies contribute to a cycle of violence and perpetuate a sense of lawlessness in the district.
State lawmakers have also voiced their concerns about Moriarty’s lenient approach. Some have called for investigations into her office and have proposed changes to the law to clarify sentencing guidelines and ensure that criminals are held accountable for their actions.
In response to the growing criticism and public outcry, Moriarty has defended her decisions, citing her belief in restorative justice and the potential for rehabilitation. She argues that the current criminal justice system is flawed and that punishment alone does not address the underlying causes of criminal behavior.
However, her arguments have done little to quell the dissatisfaction and frustration of the community. Many believe that her leniency sends the wrong message to criminals and fails to address the needs and rights of victims.
It is clear that the leniency of Hennepin County District Attorney Mary Moriarty has become a divisive issue in Minnesota. The fact that even a Soros-backed attorney general has stepped in to express concerns speaks volumes about the seriousness of the situation. The community deserves a district attorney who prioritizes public safety, justice, and the rights of victims. It is time for a reevaluation of Moriarty’s lenient approach and a renewed commitment to ensuring that criminals are held accountable for their actions.
