Growing divide between Scalise and Jordan supporters throws wrench into House Speaker race.
Wrench Thrown Into House Speaker Race as Divide Grows Between Scalise and Jordan Supporters
Republicans have nominated Majority Leader Steve Scalise of Louisiana for speaker of the House, setting the stage for a potentially contentious battle. With the party still divided, many fear a repeat of the prolonged fight that took place earlier this year before Rep. Kevin McCarthy ultimately secured the speakership.
In the GOP conference, Scalise emerged victorious over Rep. Jim Jordan of Ohio, winning by a vote of 113-99.
To secure the speaker’s chair, Scalise will need to secure 217 votes on the House floor. With 221 Republicans in the House, he has a slim margin of just four GOP votes to spare.
However, Rep. Thomas Massie of Kentucky has stated that there are “at least 20″ Republicans who are not ready to back Scalise, according to CNN.
The shadow of former President Donald Trump looms over House Republicans, as he has endorsed Jordan for the position.
After the vote, Texas Rep. Troy Nehls emphasized Trump’s leadership within the party, stating, “Donald Trump is the leader of our party, make no mistake.”
Voicing their support for Jordan were Reps. Max Miller of Ohio, Lauren Boebert of Colorado, Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia, and Nancy Mace of South Carolina.
Despite the divisions, Scalise has managed to win over at least one holdout. Rep. Anna Paulina Luna of Florida switched her support to the majority leader after previously backing Jordan.
While Scalise has garnered some support, critics like Greene and Massie have raised concerns about his lack of a clear plan and have expressed their preference for Jordan.
As the battle for the speakership continues, the divide between Scalise and Jordan supporters grows, adding uncertainty to the outcome.
A Note from Our Deputy Managing Editor:
I walked into the office one morning and noticed something strange. Half of The Western Journal’s readership was missing.
It had finally happened. Facebook had flipped THE switch.
Maybe it was because we wrote about ivermectin. Or election integrity. Or the Jan. 6 detainees. Or ballot mules.
Whatever the reason, I immediately knew what to do. We had to turn to you because, frankly, we know you are the only ones we can trust.
Can you help? Every donation to The Western Journal goes directly to funding our team of story researchers, writers and editors who doggedly pursue the truth and expose the corrupt elites.
Can I count on you for a small donation? We operate on a shoestring compared to other news media companies, so I can personally promise that not a penny of your donation will be wasted.
We will use every single cent to fight against the lies and corruption in high places. And as long as we have your help, we will never give up.
Sincerely,

How is former President Donald Trump’s endorsement of Jim Jordan impacting the House Speaker race?
Wrench Thrown Into House Speaker Race as Divide Grows Between Scalise and Jordan Supporters
Republicans find themselves at another crossroads as they nominate Majority Leader Steve Scalise of Louisiana for the position of speaker of the House. In a party still divided, there are concerns that history may repeat itself, with a lengthy and contentious battle reminiscent of the one that took place earlier this year before Rep. Kevin McCarthy ultimately secured the speakership.
Within the GOP conference, Scalise emerged victorious over Rep. Jim Jordan of Ohio, winning by a vote of 113-99. However, Scalise’s victory in the nomination is just the beginning of his challenges. To secure the speaker’s chair, Scalise will need to secure 217 votes on the House floor, with a slim margin of only four GOP votes to spare, considering there are 221 Republicans in the House.
Nevertheless, Rep. Thomas Massie of Kentucky has stated that there are “at least 20” Republicans who are not yet ready to back Scalise, according to CNN. This indicates divisions within the party that could hinder Scalise’s path to the speakership.
Adding to the complexity is the shadow of former President Donald Trump, who has endorsed Jordan for the position. Trump’s influence within the Republican Party remains significant, as emphasized by Texas Rep. Troy Nehls, who stated, “Donald Trump is the leader of our party, make no mistake.”
Support for Jordan has been voiced by a number of representatives, including Max Miller of Ohio, Lauren Boebert of Colorado, Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia, and Nancy Mace of South Carolina. This show of support demonstrates the strong backing that Jordan enjoys from certain factions within the party.
However, Scalise has managed to win over at least one holdout. Rep. Anna Paulina Luna of Florida switched her support from Jordan to Scalise, adding to the intrigue.
While Scalise has garnered some support, critics like Greene and Massie have raised concerns about his lack of a clear plan and have expressed their preference for Jordan. These criticisms further highlight the divisions within the party over who should lead them in the House.
As the battle for the speakership continues, the divide between Scalise and Jordan supporters grows, adding uncertainty to the outcome. The final decision will have significant implications for the future direction and unity of the Republican Party.
