Members of the Writers Guild of America made their voices heard as they protested outside the ABC studio where The View is filmed. The lively demonstration took place before the live broadcast on Monday, capturing the attention of onlookers.
Footage of the event posted on social media showcased the passion and determination of at least a dozen protesters picketing outside the studio from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Notable Figures Join the Cause
Joining the ranks of the WGA members were Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-NY) and Federal Trade Commission Chairwoman Lina Khan. Their presence added weight to the demonstration, emphasizing the importance of the writers’ cause.
The View has remained on the air despite the ongoing writers strike, which began on May 2. Host Whoopi Goldberg expressed her support for the writers, acknowledging the challenges they face.
“We did the show anyway because we want to keep everybody employed, and we want to do our best,” Goldberg explained.
After an extended break for the Independence Day holiday, the daytime talk show returned to live broadcasts on Monday, determined to continue delivering engaging content to its viewers.
According to an announcement made to guild members on May 1, the WGA stated that they had not yet reached an agreement with the studios and streamers. Over the past six weeks, negotiations have taken place with major industry players such as Netflix, Amazon, Apple, Disney, Discovery-Warner, NBC Universal, Paramount, and Sony, under the umbrella of the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP).
