Federal agents raid WWE boss Vince McMahon, announces indefinite leave.
Federal Agents Raid WWE Boss Vince McMahon, Indefinite Leave Announced
Last month, federal agents conducted a raid on former WWE CEO Vince McMahon in connection with allegations of sexual misconduct. The 77-year-old is accused of paying multiple women “hush money” totaling $12 million over 16 years to keep quiet about the alleged misconduct.
The raid took place on July 17, and McMahon was served with a grand jury subpoena, according to a quarterly Securities Exchange Commission filing by the WWE. The purpose of the raid and the specific items agents were searching for remain unclear.
In response to the allegations, McMahon stated, “In 2022, WWE formed a special committee to review allegations of misconduct against me. That review was concluded in November 2022 following an extensive investigation. Throughout this experience, I have always denied any intentional wrongdoing and continue to do so. I am confident that the government’s investigation will be resolved without any findings of wrongdoing.”
Denial of Wrongdoing and Indefinite Leave
McMahon, who has not been charged with a crime, denied any wrongdoing in a statement to Deadline Hollywood. He also mentioned that he recently underwent a surgical procedure on his spine and is currently on indefinite leave from the WWE.
McMahon stepped down as CEO in June of last year when the accusations first surfaced. In a statement on social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter), he announced his retirement after four decades at the helm of the WWE. However, he did not address the allegations against him directly.
At 77, time for me to retire.
Thank you, WWE Universe.
Then. Now. Forever. Together. #WWE #thankful— Vince McMahon (@VinceMcMahon) July 22, 2022
Although McMahon returned to the company’s board in January, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that he is currently on indefinite leave due to his recent surgery. Despite his absence, McMahon will continue to serve as the Executive Chairman of the WWE.
A Long-Standing Career and Connection to Donald Trump
Vince McMahon has been a prominent figure in the world of professional wrestling for decades, both as a promoter and as a performer. He has also been open about his friendship with former President Donald Trump, who has made appearances at WWE events over the years.
It is worth noting that Trump is currently facing legal challenges related to his actions surrounding the 2020 election. On Tuesday, he was indicted on four counts for his efforts to challenge the election results.
For now, McMahon’s future with the WWE remains uncertain as the investigation into the allegations against him continues.
McMahon’s career has been marked by his involvement in the world of professional wrestling, and his connection to Donald Trump has also garnered attention in recent years. As the investigation into the allegations against McMahon unfolds, the future of the WWE remains uncertain.
