Wyoming prohibits gender-affirming procedures and puberty blockers for minors
Wyoming Takes a Stand: Gov. Gordon Signs Bill Banning Gender Surgeries on Children
Wyoming has joined the ranks as the 24th state to take a firm stance against gender surgeries on minors. Governor Mark Gordon, a Republican, recently signed Senate File 99 into law, effectively putting an end to these life-altering procedures for children. The legislation sailed through the state’s House and Senate, garnering overwhelming support along the way.
A Victory for Child Protection
The bill explicitly prohibits physicians from performing procedures related to gender transitioning and reassignment on minors. Governor Gordon, while endorsing the bill as a crucial step in safeguarding children, also voiced concerns about governmental intrusion into the private affairs of families.
In a recent press release, Governor Gordon stated, “I signed SF99 because I support the protections this bill includes for children. However, it is my belief that the government is straying into the personal affairs of families.” He emphasized the need for the legislature to clarify its stance on parental rights.
The legislation does allow exceptions for cases where procedures are necessitated by a medically verifiable genetic disorder of sex development or central precocious puberty, provided they have parental consent.
While championing the protection of children from gender procedures, Governor Gordon vetoed a separate bill aimed at regulating abortion clinics, citing potential legal vulnerabilities.
The movement to outlaw gender surgeries on minors gained traction in 2022, with several Republican-led states enacting similar bans in response to reports of increasing surgical interventions on children. Shocking revelations emerged regarding Vanderbilt University Medical Center’s lucrative approach to such procedures, highlighting the financial incentives involved.

In the wake of these revelations, states like Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, Texas, and others swiftly followed suit in safeguarding minors from gender surgeries and hormone treatments. However, legal challenges have arisen in Montana, Idaho, and Arkansas, where bans on these procedures faced judicial setbacks.
