Wyoming becomes first state to outlaw abortion pills

Governor Mark Gordon (R-Wyo.) Friday’s bill was signed by Governor Mark Gorman (R-Wyo.) and prohibits prescription or use of abortion pills.
Wyoming became the first state to ban abortion pills after the legislation was passed by the Republican-led state legislature. The bill contains language that would make it unlawful to “prescribe, dispense, distribute, sell or use any drug for the purpose of procuring or performing an abortion.”
The bill contains exemptions for women who need treatment to protect their health. “an imminent peril that substantially endangers her life or health.” There are also exemptions to the bill. “natural miscarriages,”
The new bill will also exempt the morning-after pill from the ban.
Violations of the law will result in a criminal misdemeanor that can lead to up to six months imprisonment and a maximum fine of $9,000.
This measure also mentions that a woman who had a chemical abortion performed or attempted on herself is not eligible for this measure. “shall not be criminally prosecuted.”
The governor stated that an additional bill banning abortions within the state had been enacted.
The second measure, passed by state legislators, prohibits abortion procedures unless they are necessary to preserve the mother’s health and life. The law also allows for abortions in cases such as rape or incest or when there is an unborn child.
The Supreme Court’s June Roe v. Wade decision was overturned. Since then, there have been a few legal challenges to abortion legislation throughout the United States. Each state was allowed to create its own abortion access regulations after the Court’s decision.
Gordon acknowledged that Wyoming’s abortion access advocates were opposed by Gordon. “trigger” After Roe v. Wade was overturned, abortion restrictions were put into effect. The original law prohibiting abortion pills was challenged.
The new law will take effect on Sunday.
