Xi Flaunts China’s ‘Deepening’ Bond With Russia During Talks With Putin
Chinese leader Xi Jinping is showcasing his country’s strong alliance with Russian President Vladimir Putin during his three-day official visit to Moscow. The Kremlin reported that the leaders negotiated and signed statements to strengthen economic cooperation between their nations over the next decade, which provides Russia with a lifeline to recover from its sanctions due to its war in Ukraine. Despite the ongoing conflict, a joint statement signed by both leaders expressed support for the international community to assist constructive efforts in responsible dialogue. Xi and Putin previously met before the invasion of Ukraine when they forged a bond between their countries. Building upon that, Xi declared that political mutual trust is deepening while common interests are multiplying. The White House denied the notion of an alliance and mentioned that China and Russia have been growing closer for years now.
Xi is expected to call Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky after his Moscow visit, according to The Wall Street Journal. Meanwhile, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida made an unannounced visit to Ukraine on Tuesday.
