‘Yellowstone’ Stars React to Beth And Rip’s Season 4 Finale Surprise — ‘It’s Pretty Wild!’
While Sunday night marked the end of an extended holiday break for most people, there was one bright spot: The highly anticipated season 4 finale of “Yellowstone.” And that episode included at least one big surprising moment.
Spoiler warning: this article contains spoilers for the season 4 finale of “Yellowstone.”
The big news of the night was the surprise wedding between Rip (Cole Hauser) and Beth (Kelly Reilly). The actors spoke with Entertainment Tonight about their reaction to the unexpected storyline.
“I mean the way it went down was pretty wild,” Hauser said about tying the knot. “Her storming in and her gold dress, her dad [John Dutton played by Kevin Costner] and I looking at her and going, ‘What in the hell is she up to now?’ Then she has a priest that she’s kidnapped. It’s pretty wild!”
Fans will no doubt remember Beth going to great lengths to get what she wanted. Wearing that gold dress was a statement in itself, since it was the same one she wore while sneaking into the conjugal visit trailer at the prison.
“Even as an actor we’re sitting there and we’re trying to put all the things together and connect all the dots and you’re like, ‘This is f**king crazy,’ you know what I mean?” Hauser continued. “[But] it all comes together and there’s actually this beautiful moment there. I thought it was pretty touching in the end.”
The wedding and events leading up to it help explore the character of Beth in new ways. She’s impulsive and knows what she wants, plus is willing to do what it takes to get it.
“I love their wedding, and it’s just so typical Beth,” Reilly told ET of the nuptial ceremony. “She’s just not interested in having a wedding party or a wedding dress or any of that. All she cares about is being his wife and she knows that… I kind of find her slightly heroic in a really messed up way.”
Reilly went on to describe the wedding as “perfect,” especially for these two “Yellowstone” characters. The actress also said it was “hilarious and poetic at the same time.”
“It’s just perfect. It’s the perfect wedding,” she went on. “When I read that, it made me laugh because I knew we were gonna get married this season, but I didn’t know how.”
Meanwhile, some fans were disappointed with what they considered a “lackluster” season finale that was missing the over-the-top action scenes that “Yellowstone” fans enjoy. It’s true that Beth kidnapped the priest at gunpoint to perform the ceremony, but as she herself explained, it was just “a little pistol.”
The season 4 finale did have a death as we said goodbye to Garrett Randall (Will Patton). But it was nowhere close to the exciting, high-stakes shootout that went down during the season 3 finale, which is more what fans have come to expect from the series.
Despite the slightly disappointing finale, “Yellowstone” remains one of the most popular dramas on television and has been renewed for a fifth season. Filming is scheduled to begin in May.
