Yelp pauses reviews for McDonald’s Trump visited after influx of political comments – Washington Examiner

Yelp‍ has ⁣temporarily disabled reviews ‍for a‌ McDonald’s location in Pennsylvania that was recently visited ⁢by former President Donald Trump. This decision comes ‌in response ‍to ⁤an ⁣influx of politically charged comments following ‍Trump’s appearance, ⁢during which he trolled Vice President Kamala Harris by working a shift at the restaurant. Yelp’s alert to users explains ⁤that the pause on comments is to ensure that reviews reflect typical customer experiences rather ‌than reactions to Trump’s visit. The company is investigating whether the content is‍ aligned with real consumer experiences. Many reviews have been polarized, displaying both ‌negative and positive⁣ sentiments tied to ‍the ⁣political event, and Yelp encourages customers⁢ to return later for genuine feedback.

Yelp has “temporarily disabled” people’s ability to leave reviews about the Pennsylvania McDonald’s former President Donald Trump recently visited in an effort to investigate politically charged comments.

After Trump trolled Vice President Kamala Harris by working a shift at a McDonald’s in Feasterville-Trevose on Sunday, Yelp reviewers left a slew of politicized reviews related to his visit.

In response, Yelp paused its comment function for the McDonald’s location because it said it wanted reviews to reflect the typical customer experience instead of Trump’s singular appearance.

“This business recently received increased public attention, which often means people come to this page to post their views on the news. While we don’t take a stand one way or the other when it comes to this incident, we’ve temporarily disabled the posting of content to this page as we work to investigate whether the content you see here reflects actual consumer experiences rather than the recent events,” a new Yelp alert says when people go to the site to look up reviews or leave a comment about the Feasterville-Trevose McDonald’s.

“If you’re here to leave a review based on a first-hand experience with the business, please check back at a later date,” the alert continues.

Millions of people across the country use Yelp to make decisions about which businesses to visit and to leave synopses of their experiences for other inquirers.

The comments posted to Yelp following Trump’s weekend appearance at the Golden Arches were both negative and positive.

“Went to this McDonalds to try the new chicken big Mac and was stunned to see a convicted felon operating the drive through. Your company hires felons? Also closing the store for the day to perform this political theater is crazy to me. I won’t be patronizing a McDonald’s ever again. Food tastes like sh– anyway,” one comment read.

Another Yelp review noted, “This business is being review bombed, over politics, by a bunch of hateful fools that have never been to the restaurant.”

“The best McDonalds I’ve ever been to in 47 years. The older employee was extremely nice. Make McDonalds Great Again!” one person praised.

Yet another reviewer mocked that Trump “got bronzer on my fries.”

The former president’s move to work the drive-thru at the Feasterville-Trevose McDonald’s comes as the latest polls indicate he holds a razor-thin lead over Harris in the battleground state.

The Harris campaign has ridiculed Trump’s McDonald’s ploy, and the fast food company has received some blowback for allowing Trump to make a campaign appearance at the franchise.

However, it has chosen not to take sides in the political debate, saying. “We are not red or blue — we are golden.”
