‘You’re Clowns’: LGBTQ Group Ripped For ‘Travel Advisory’ Warning Against Florida

A leading Florida LGBTQ advocacy group was ripped after issuing a so-called “travel advisory” advising members of the LGBTQ community not to travel to Florida.

Equality Florida stated in a Twitter thread, “It’s with great sadness that we must respond to those asking if it’s safe to travel to or remain in FL as laws strip away basic rights & freedoms,” claiming that “school censorship, book bans & health care restrictions” have made Florida “less safe” for children identifying as LGBTQ.

In their “travel advisory,” Equality Florida attacked Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis, stating, “Governor Ron DeSantis, who has made the extremist policies the centerpiece of his presidential campaign strategy, has weaponized state agencies to silence critics and impose sanctions on large and small companies that dissent with his culture war agenda or disagree with his attacks on diversity, equity, and inclusion.”

“We aren’t going to waste our time worrying about political stunts,” a spokesman for DeSantis told ABC News. “We will continue doing what is right for Floridians.”

“I’m sure this will do wonders for the mental health of youth in Florida,” Leor Sapir, a fellow of the Manhattan Institute, said in reaction to the advisory. “Nothing says ‘we have your back’ like persuading psychologically unstable teenagers that the environment they live in is even more hostile and hopeless than they imagine it to be.”

“The group, which pushes for teens to have double mastectomies and genital reassignment surgery in the name of gender identity, is now advising all members of the LGBT community not to travel to Florida,” said Oli London, a male influencer who is “de-transitioning” from identifying as a woman.

In March 2022, DeSantis signed a bill requiring schools to be transparent with parents about instructional reading materials.

“In Florida, our parents have every right to be involved in their child’s education,” DeSantis said in a statement. “We are not going to let politicians deny parents the right to know what is being taught in our schools. I’m proud to sign this legislation that ensures curriculum transparency.”

The legislation, which also set 12-year term limits for school board members, required schools to “notice” and keep meetings on the selection of school instructional materials open to the public.

School districts had to provide parents with access to all the proposed materials at least 20 days before the school board takes official action, according to the bill, and the state Department of Education (DOE) must publish a list of the removed or discontinued materials.

“School district library media center materials and assigned school or grade-level reading lists must also be reviewed by a district employee holding a valid educational media specialist certificate and require DOE to develop an online training program for librarians and media specialists,” the governor’s office said in a press release.

“While teachers, school administrators, and school board members have a tremendous amount of authority over what and how our kids are taught in school, at the end of the day, parents — not schools — are responsible for raising children,” Senate President Wilton Simpson said in a statement.
