Zelensky arrives in Poland to meet with President Duda
Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelensky, arrived in Poland to meet with Polish President Andrzej Duda, one of Ukraine’s strongest allies. The visit aims to sign bilateral agreements, and Zelensky is also expected to speak with the Polish Prime Minister and other leaders. Unlike previous visits, the Ukrainian president is traveling with his wife, Olena Zelenska.
Poland has been one of Ukraine’s fiercest allies in the defense of its sovereignty, following the Russian invasion in February 2022. The country sent fighter jets and thwarted a plot by a Russian team of saboteurs aimed at interfering with Western military aid to Ukraine. Last year, Poland expelled 45 alleged Russian spies.
Poland has been a launch point for world leaders seeking to visit Kyiv to survey the damage inflicted by Russia and its President Vladimir Putin. US President Joe Biden visited Poland before an unannounced visit to Kyiv in February on the one-year anniversary of Russia’s invasion.
House Intelligence Committee Chairman Mike Turner was also in Poland to show support for the country, as Ukraine receives massive new military aid package worth $2.6 billion from the US Department of Defense. The package includes artillery rounds, anti-armor systems, small arms, heavy equipment transport vehicles, tactical vehicles, fuel tankers, grenade launchers, and more.
