Zelensky’s reply to Trump: He’s already had those 24 hours.
Ukrainian President Pushes Back on Trump’s Claims
In a recent interview, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky responded to former President Donald Trump’s assertion that he could end Russia’s war in Ukraine within 24 hours. Zelensky firmly stated that Trump had already been given the opportunity to do so during his presidency.
Zelensky’s remarks, which he has previously made, were in reference to the time when Russia was occupying Crimea and parts of eastern Ukraine. He emphasized that his position, even 16 months into the war, remains unchanged – he will not surrender any territory to the Russians.
During the interview with ABC News’s Martha Raddatz, a clip of Trump promising to settle the war in one day was played. Zelensky responded by acknowledging the desire to end the war quickly but emphasized the need for it to be based on real-life experience.
He pointed out that Trump had already had 24 hours at his disposal during their time of conflict, but it seemed that the former president had other priorities. Zelensky also made it clear that Ukraine would not agree to end the war by giving up their territories, even if it meant a quick resolution.
Furthermore, Zelensky criticized U.S. officials who suggested cutting funding for the war in Ukraine, deeming it “dangerous.” He stressed the importance of maintaining bipartisan support for Ukraine and expressed concern over alternative visions that could undermine their assistance.
Asked what he would say to Americans who think U.S. has given “enough” to Ukraine, Zelenskyy tells @MarthaRaddatz that he appreciates all the help.
“We, Ukrainians, are not people known for excessive appetites. Our victory is enough for us.” https://t.co/Kuuzty4v6y pic.twitter.com/q1bwXfB1LF
